This guide will walk you through the complete installation process for Scare Bot, from inviting the bot to your server to configuring all features.

Prerequisites

Before installing Scare Bot, ensure you have:
  • Discord Server Ownership/Administrator: You need to be the server owner or have administrator permissions
  • Discord Account: A valid Discord account
  • Web Browser: Any modern web browser (Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Edge)

Step 1: Invite the Bot

  1. Click the invite link:

  2. Select your server from the dropdown menu
  3. Review permissions - The bot requests administrator permissions to access all features
  4. Click “Authorize” to complete the installation

Step 2: Verify Installation

After inviting the bot, verify the installation:
  1. Check bot status: The bot should appear online in your server’s member list
  2. Test prefix commands: Type , in any channel to see available commands
  3. Run basic command: Try ,botinfo to confirm the bot is working

Method 2: Custom Permissions Install

If you prefer to customize permissions instead of using administrator:

Step 1: Create Custom Invite

  1. Go to Discord Developer Portal
  2. Create a new application or use an existing one
  3. Go to OAuth2 → URL Generator
  4. Select the following scopes:
    • bot
    • applications.commands
  5. Select the following permissions:
    • General Permissions:
      • Read Messages/View Channels
      • Send Messages
      • Use Slash Commands
      • Embed Links
      • Attach Files
      • Read Message History
      • Add Reactions
      • Use External Emojis
      • Use External Stickers
    • Moderation Permissions:
      • Manage Messages
      • Ban Members
      • Kick Members
      • Manage Roles
      • View Audit Log
    • Voice Permissions:
      • Connect
      • Speak
      • Use Voice Activity
      • Priority Speaker
      • Manage Channels
  6. Copy the generated URL and use it to invite the bot

After inviting with custom permissions, you may need to:
  1. Create bot role: Ensure the bot has a role with necessary permissions
  2. Channel permissions: Set up channel-specific permissions if needed
  3. Test functionality: Verify all features work with the custom permissions

Troubleshooting

Common Issues

Bot Not Responding

Symptoms: Bot appears offline or doesn’t respond to commands Solutions:
  1. Check if the bot is online in your server
  2. Verify the bot has proper permissions
  3. Try re-inviting the bot with administrator permissions
  4. Check Discord’s status at status.discord.com

Commands Not Working

Symptoms: Prefix commands don’t work or return errors Solutions:
  1. Ensure the bot has proper permissions in the channel
  2. Check if the bot can read and send messages
  3. Try refreshing Discord or restarting the Discord client
  4. Verify the bot prefix is set to ,

Permission Errors

Symptoms: Bot can’t perform actions due to permission issues Solutions:
  1. Ensure the bot’s role is above the roles it needs to manage
